Here we go again! I was really busy the past week because of the Eid Holidays here in Dubai- which I will be posting about here on the blog really soon.
For now, I decided to do an OPM (Original Pilipino / Pinoy Music) list of songs that I really like. For those of you who don't know, I am a Filipino and I also like listening to Filipino music from time to time. Listening to songs that are sang in my native tongue really makes me appreciate the talented songwriters and singers who came up with such beautiful lyrics and melodies.
And because I've been really addicted to the latest trending, phenomenal love team of the Philippines - Aldub, hearing them dub or sing OPM songs simply makes me appreciate the beauty of the Philippine's culture through music.
So here, I am going to share to you my top 5 favorite Filipino songs for this week and I'm inviting you all to have a taste of the Philippine's richness when it comes to expressing words through songs.
1. Dati by Sam Concepcion and Tippy Dos Santos feat. Quest
I love this song not only because of its sweet -sounding melody, but also because I can relate to it. This song speaks about two people reminiscing there childhood days when they used to be best friends. Dati means 'before'
which just means that they miss the memories of the past when they used to play as a prince and princess, having their own worlds. They would together watch their favorite TV programs, make their own little houses, and many more. Towards the end of the video, the boy can be seen holding a passport in his hand which means that they'll be separated and that's where the chorus of the song comes in. When they finally met after how many years, they admit that everything has changed. Awwww.
I can relate to this because I once had a guy best friend in the Philippines before I moved to the UAE for good. He was my best friend and we'd always play together during the afternoon. We'd talk over the tall wall that divides our houses. We were neighbors and one thing I can remember about him is that they had a cute little, green car (Volkswagen) Haha! I don't even remember his name anymore because we were still really young at that time. But I still hope to meet him someday! Who knows?!
2. Bahala Na by James Reid and Nadine Lustre
I love this song because it speaks about having a happy ever after in love. They believe in forever too. Bahala Na means 'never mind'; part of the lyrics says that even if they're not sure about what's going to happen, they're still going to chase after their love for one another. Sweet!
3. Pagsuko by Jireh Lim
I really love Jireh Lim's voice, it sounds like he doesn't even strike an effort whenever he sings and yet, his songs sound so perfect. Well, this song speaks about giving up - the exact meaning of Pagsuko in Tagalog. The lyrics talks about the girl giving up on their relationship. Jireh sings about all of the hard times they have overcome and have been through, reminding the girl that their love must be worth fighting for and not merely turned into memories. #ShedsATear
4.. Mr. Right by Kim Chiu
I think the title says it all. I like this love team especially Kim Chiu who looks so cute in this video. This song's about waiting for that someone right for you. A lot will come, but eventually, there's only one person who's going to be right for you. The one who's going to be the love of your life and the icing on your cupcake! #Sugar
5. The Aldub Song by Keiko Necessario feat. the Antonio Duo
Because I love Aldub, it also means that I love every song related to them. Well, I like the melody and Keiko who looks so good when playing the guitar. These 3 really did a good job in writing this catchy song. The meaning of the song is also cool as it speaks about Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) never giving up on the challenges that Lola Nidora has set before them in Eat Bulaga's segment called Kalyeserye. Hopefully in the end, they can prove that their love is true. #Cheesy
I think I'm really beginning to love OPM songs and probably this is not going to be the first nor the last topic about OPM because I'm definitely going to write some more!
What do you think about this topic? Let me know!
I live an ordinary life; striving and making it work in the giant sandpit aka Dubai. My life isn't perfect (I wish it was!) But I guess there's something about the imperfection in my journey that makes it worth the write and share. I believe that we don't have to have everything figured out because if we do, a lifetime won't be enough...
